Holy Fire → Hammerdin

Strong early packs with a fast weapon; hammers give broad campaign coverage after the respec.

Consider: Hammers unlock at 18; the preview uses 25. Positioning and mana matter, especially in narrow areas.

Holy Bolt → Fist of the Heavens

Caster alternative: Holy Bolt at 6, FoH at 30. Particularly comfortable against demons and undead.

Consider: Animals need melee or a mercenary early, then FoH’s single-target lightning. This is slower in animal-heavy areas.

Other styles: You can start Holy Fire and respec to FoH at 30 instead of starting Holy Bolt. Zeal and Smite are physical alternatives when you have an appropriate weapon; Smite is not a broad pack-clearing recommendation. Their point tables are not included here.

Required fights: Hammers encounter magic immunes in Hell. FoH’s bolts have different target rules. Prepare a mercenary for required fights your selected skill cannot finish.

All levels visible

Follow the rows at your own pace. Checking off levels is optional. This path uses your Strength and Dexterity targets and any quest rewards you have already recorded. Future quest points depend on your level when you collect them; recording a reward recalculates the path.

Extra points in each difficulty: Den of Evil +1 skill, Radament +1 skill, Izual +2 skills, and Lam Esen’s Tome +5 stats. Spend skill rewards on the next planned skill that is unlocked, or save them until it unlocks. Meet your equipment’s Strength and Dexterity requirements, then put remaining stats in Vitality.

Planned transition: Blessed Hammer at level 25. This reading path includes the respec and reallocation. The build is available from level 18; delay the switch until your damage, mana and gear are comfortable. Your tracker stays on the starter until you confirm an actual in-game respec.

Equipment requirements (base stats, before item bonuses)

Meet Strength first, then Dexterity, then put remaining points in Vitality. Change targets only for gear you plan to equip. Changing a target recalculates stat rows and may require an in-game respec.

Allocation rules are checked against the displayed patch 3.2 data snapshot. Later item and balance changes are not simulated here. These are suggested campaign routes; completion speed and safety have not been playtested for every class and gear setup.

This core route leaves 10 skill points unassigned at level 99 for your endgame build. Rows marked “core complete” do not imply another skill is about to unlock.

Other ways to level faster

Finishing the campaign and farming XP are different goals. Use an XP stop when progression slows; avoid farming a fixed number of runs when your next act already clears well.

For level 1 · normal

Follow Act I first. Optional Tristram runs can help around levels 6–14 when campaign progress slows; there is no need to farm every checkpoint.

Solo with found gear

Prioritize movement, damage, resistances and potion supply. A short gear stop can save more time than extra levels. Skip optional immune packs; change plans if a required fight cannot be handled.

Offline player setting

Try a higher player setting only while kills stay quick and safe. Extra XP per monster comes with extra monster life. Compare XP gained over a few timed runs; player setting 8 is not automatically fastest. This setting is for offline play.

Online party or rush

Nearby party members share XP. Stay with the killing group; a higher-level helper does not guarantee better XP. Completing your own Ancients requires level 20 / 40 / 60. Special quest-sharing rushes follow different rules and need a separate guide; this checklist follows your own quest completion.

Supplied gear & Terror Zones

Level-appropriate weapons, movement and mana items can make another route competitive. Check item requirements first. To enable Terror Zones in your own games, finish Baal in that difficulty; compare the active zone with a reliable dense area. Avoid repeated deaths.

Clear the Den of Evil

Clear every monster, then speak to Akara. Mark this after collecting the skill point.

Where should my next skill and stat points go?

Choose your class, level, difficulty and completed reward quests in Leveling Companion. It shows a leveling route and the next allocations. Your chosen route and available quest points matter; it does not diagnose every possible endgame build.

See my next leveling step →
Are there different ways to level my class?

Compare two detailed routes for each of the eight classes, including Fire Ball or Nova into Blizzard, summons or Bone Necromancer, and fire or magic Warlock. Preview all levels before changing your tracker. The comparisons explain respecs, equipment and immunity limits, and identify further styles whose point tables are not included.

How can I level faster without changing my build?

The companion suggests optional XP stops for your level and difficulty and explains offline player settings, nearby party XP, supplied gear and Terror Zones. Faster campaign progress and faster XP farming are different goals. Compare safe clear speed and downtime; a larger player setting is not automatically better.
