The Duelist Joins Path of Exile 2 in 1.0

The Duelist arrives with Path of Exile 2's full 1.0 release on December 11, 2026. His reveal also introduces swords as a weapon type, with combat built around Ready Stance, Blood and Sand Stances, parry, Cyclone and attacks that interact with blades buried in the ground.

Ready Stance Changes the Follow-Up Attack

Certain Duelist skills can be held after use to ready the blades for the next strike. The basic sword slash becomes a wider AoE attack from Ready Stance, while other skills gain their own altered version.

Sand Scour can move the Duelist into Sand Stance after a stun. From there, attacks such as Perforate change again, producing extra sand projectiles for pack clearing. Rending Dash can reposition the character without breaking Ready Stance, so the system is built around chaining attacks rather than stopping between them.

Blood Stance, Bleed and Parry

Dual-wielding swords gives the Duelist access to parry. Bloody Blade can then enter Blood Stance, adding bleed-focused versions of attacks. Perforate creates blood novas in this stance, while Hemorrhage accelerates bleeding already applied to enemies.

Rending Dash can consume built-up blood loss for a larger bleed hit. Sword-and-shield setups also have a direct defensive option: a shield bash from Ready Stance can trigger a parry without waiting for an enemy swing.

Cyclone Returns With Stance Interactions

Cyclone is part of the Duelist toolkit, but the reveal showed more than the familiar spin attack. Sand Stance makes Cyclone throw sand discs, and the skill can pick up elemental ground effects created by other abilities.

GGG demonstrated Cyclone carrying combinations of blood, sand, fire, ice and lightning effects. That opens the door to builds that use Cyclone as the center of several skill interactions rather than a standalone attack.

Buried Blades Create Another Build Route

Earth Rend creates blades in the ground, and several other skills can use them. Charged Slash can turn buried blades into lightning sources, Blade Plunge can detonate them, and Sand or Blood Stance can add further effects around each blade.

The reveal also showed Rain of Steel filling the battlefield with buried swords and World Cutter as a charged finishing slash. These mechanics formed the base of one of the two developer builds shown after the class demonstration.

Two Endgame Builds Were Shown

  • Bringer of Blades: creates large numbers of buried blades, charges them with lightning and uses Sand Stance interactions to fill the screen with sand discs.
  • Scourge Walker: combines Cyclone, fire, bleed and Infernal Step, with Oro's Sacrifice used as part of the setup.

Neither build used a Duelist Ascendancy. GGG only showed Ascendancy artwork and said more will be revealed at ExileCon later this year.
