Launch Date and Official Reveal Video

Curse of the Allflame launches on July 24, 2026 in the Americas, which is July 25 in New Zealand. The exact local launch time should be taken from the official countdown on the expansion page.

The reveal covers the new underwater league, endgame reworks, crafting systems and character changes.

How the Curse of the Allflame League Mechanic Works

Captain Valerie recruits the player to recover lost Charts scattered across Wraeclast. Each Chart identifies a location beneath the frozen seas where treasure, undead corsairs and creatures of the deep are waiting.

After acquiring a Chart, the player boards Valerie's ship, The Sovereign. The ship is powered by Vesper, whose body and soul are bound to the Allflame. A Bathysphere carries the player to the ocean floor.

  1. Find a Chart

Charts appear in Wraeclast and are protected by special encounters. Defeating the guards can grant area-specific bonuses.

  2. Descend in the Bathysphere

The first Allflame Lantern activates on landing and pushes back the water, creating a temporary safe zone.

  3. Place additional Lanterns

Expand the safe area manually or enable automatic deployment for a faster but less deliberate route.

  4. Gather Dead Man's Sulphur

Break luminous coral found on the corrupted dead. Sulphur powers the ship and fuels the league's crafting system.

  5. Escape before the light fails

Once the final Lantern is placed, the existing Lanterns begin to fade and deep-sea monsters close in. Return to the Bathysphere before the water reclaims the area.

The mechanic is built around controlled expansion and retreat. Placing more Lanterns reveals more monsters, treasures and Sulphur, but it also commits the player to a longer escape once Vesper's limited power starts running out.

Charts, the Voyage Board and High-Reward Expeditions

Successfully explored areas are recorded and can later be assembled into a Voyage. Valerie's board contains nine Chart positions, turning the league into a route-planning system rather than a sequence of unrelated encounters.

Charts can modify adjacent locations or the complete Voyage, making board placement part of the reward strategy.

Each Chart can apply a special effect to adjacent Charts or the entire Voyage. Revealed examples include converting equipment drops in adjacent areas into Gold, spawning friendly jellyfish alongside monster packs for additional loot and experience, and empowering adjacent monsters with Wildwood Wisps.

Special Charts can lead to more unusual areas, including treasure-filled anchor fields, lost Kalguuran shipments and submerged Abyssal pits. Random corruption currents around the edges of the board add another layer of adjacency-based effects.

Loot Capsules and Extraction

Every Chart area contains a capsule that can store approximately one inventory of items. Players can fill the capsule and send it to the surface, making it possible to continue a nine-area Voyage without abandoning valuable drops. To leave the Voyage, call the Bathysphere to a capsule location and survive until it arrives.

Vesper Crafting: Multiple Outcomes from One Craft

Dead Man's Sulphur is not only expedition fuel. Below deck, Vesper can use it to perform one of the league's most consequential crafting systems.

Vesper creates several ghostly versions of a crafting outcome, but only one can be made real.

The player gives Vesper an item, a currency item that could normally be used on it and enough Sulphur. Vesper then produces several ghostly versions representing independent results from that crafting action. The player chooses one result to keep; all other outcomes disappear.

The reveal showed the system being discussed for high-cost crafting actions such as influenced Exalted Orbs and expensive fossil combinations. Stronger crafts demand more Sulphur, so the system still has a meaningful resource cost.

Special Ducats

Kishara's Ducat

Creates four ghostly copies of an item, each retaining one modifier from the original. Its most obvious use is producing valuable crafting bases from a strong starting item.

The Genteel's Ducat

Changes one attribute into another, offering a possible solution for item or gem requirement problems. Exact restrictions need confirmation from the patch notes.

Brinehook's Ducat

Allows the player to become an emissary of Wraeclast's gods through unknown Aspects. The reveal deliberately withheld the full effects.

Mercenaries of Trarthus Return

Mercenaries start appearing from Act 3 in Sarn. Before a duel, players can inspect the Mercenary's equipped items and skills, then select one carried item as the wager.

Players can inspect a Mercenary before staking Gold on a duel.

Losing the duel forfeits the Gold and causes the Mercenary to leave. Winning grants the chosen item and recruits the Mercenary as a temporary ally for several areas. Mercenaries can provide auras, buffs, direct damage or other forms of combat assistance.

Unlike the earlier Mercenaries league, an allied Mercenary does not count as a party member. It therefore does not increase monster life or alter item quantity and rarity through party scaling.

Tradable Warrants

In maps, a player who dislikes the Mercenary's current equipment can request a Warrant. The Warrant summons the same Mercenary in a future map with the same skill set but a new collection of items. Each Mercenary grants only one Warrant, and Warrants can be traded to other players.

Atlas Passives and Scarabs

Mercenaries become a fully supported core mechanic with Atlas passives and Scarabs. Revealed examples include Loot and Pillage, which can make a defeated Mercenary drop every equipped item; the Trarthan Scarab of Renown, which produces a Mercenary wearing Unique items; and the Scarab of Infamy, which spawns an Infamous Mercenary with two allies.

The Luminary: A New Mercenary-Focused Scion Ascendancy

The Luminary can permanently hire, equip and specialize Mercenaries.

The Luminary is a new Scion Ascendancy built around permanent Mercenary companions. Its Noble Blood passive allows the Scion to permanently hire Mercenaries encountered in Wraeclast.

  • Up to three permanently hired Mercenaries can be retained.
  • Two remain in reserve in towns or hideouts.
  • One serves as the active combat ally.
  • Permanently hired Mercenaries can have their equipment changed.
  • Unique-item access is restricted by default and unlocked through Ascendancy passives.

The tree supports several directions: empowering a Mercenary through Link skills, allowing the Mercenary to protect the player, improving Mercenary auras, or creating a heavily equipped companion through Legendary Arms.

Abyss Rework and a New Pinnacle Boss

Abyss no longer requires players to follow a moving crack through a map. Abyssal pits are already open, influencing nearby enemies with Abyssal energy. Killing those enemies sends their souls into the pit until the forces below emerge.

The new Abyss flow removes the old crack-chasing and backtracking pattern.

Abyssal Jewels and Abyssal Sockets remain. However, Abyss becomes the exclusive source of Abyssal Jewels and Stygian Vises, making dedicated Abyss farming more distinct. Its Atlas passives and Scarabs are also being refreshed.

Abyss gains a new endgame pinnacle boss and a new set of Unique items.

The boss has an intentionally mysterious access method. The reveal teased an unusual eye-like object but left the discovery process to players.

Legion Rework and Vestigial Unique Items

Incubators are removed and replaced by a chase reward system based on Vestigial Unique Items. Legion Generals can drop Enshrouding Crystals, which are used on Unique armour pieces before taking them into the Domain of Timeless Conflict.

  1. Enshroud a Unique armour item

Use an Enshrouding Crystal on an eligible Unique.

  2. Place it inside the Domain

The item is inserted into one of the crystals around the new central structure.

  3. Charge it through combat

Killing monsters causes the item to transform.

  4. Receive a different Unique with a Vestigial Implicit

The resulting Unique inherits a modifier associated with the original item.

The demonstration transformed Shaper's Touch into Maligaro's Virtuosity while carrying over a trace of the original item as a Vestigial Implicit. Helmets, boots, gloves, shields and body armours were shown.

Other Legion improvements include automatic encounter activation after enough key targets are released, fewer but larger splinter stacks, the removal of Unrelenting Emblems and a cleaner reward-progress display inside the Domain.

Bestiary and Talisman Rework

Talismans become exclusive Bestiary rewards. Every red beast can drop a Talisman associated with that beast, giving the system a defined acquisition path.

The largest changes are structural:

  • Talismans no longer drop corrupted.
  • Their special effects become enchantments instead of implicits.
  • The enchantment slot competes with Blight Anointments, allowing stronger effects.
  • Talisman Unique items are improved.
  • Bestiary bosses can drop Talisman Uniques.

The new Eyes of the Greatwolf was highlighted as an item with unusually strong possible combinations.

Atlas Anomalies

Completing maps influenced by a Voidstone can cause an Anomaly to appear directly on the Atlas. Anomalies do not require a Map Item, are not affected by the Atlas passive tree and cannot be augmented with fragments.

Anomalies are self-contained Atlas locations that can often be revisited until their decision or reward is resolved.
Examples shown during the reveal
Anomaly Function
Cadiro Perandus Offers an item for Gold. Rejecting it creates a more expensive new offer, and the area remains available while the player gathers Gold.
Reflecting Mist Moves the Reflecting Mist from random map appearances into a dedicated Anomaly.
Nameless Seer Receives a dedicated area; Scrying is moved to a new tradable Scrying Orb.
Heist Creates a fully revealed random Blueprint wing with random Rogue companions.
Harvest Provides a special version of the Sacred Grove overtaken by plants.
Unknown Strongbox A special Strongbox mechanism was teased without explaining the outcome.

Different Anomalies are tied to Atlas quadrants, so the areas a player chooses to complete may influence which Anomalies can appear.

Socket Colours No Longer Restrict Gems

In 3.29, any gem can be placed into any socket regardless of colour. Socket count and links still matter, but a newly found armour upgrade is no longer unusable because its colours do not match the character's gems.

Coloured sockets still exist, but their purpose changes from restriction to enhancement. Placing a gem into a socket of the same colour grants additional Quality to that gem. Coloured sockets are therefore rarer, more desirable optimization outcomes.

Chromatic Orbs remain in the game and now guarantee at least one red, green or blue socket. The change should make campaign gearing, league-start upgrades and build experimentation significantly less restrictive.

Self-Cast Spellcaster Changes, Mana-Infused Staff and Pact Gems

GGG is differentiating spell damage types rather than allowing every spell archetype to scale in the same way. Physical Shadow spells such as Ethereal Knives and Bladefall are moving toward higher critical strike chance with lower damage, while pure lightning spells generally cast faster but demand more Mana per second.

New general spellcasting notables are being added to Assassin, Occultist and Inquisitor. The exact effects belong in the patch-note analysis.

Mana-Infused Staff

This new skill infuses a staff with arcane energy, increasing block chance and reducing spell Mana costs. When the player is hit, it retaliates with arcane lightning whose damage is based on maximum Mana.

Pact Exceptional Skill Gems

Pacts are themed around Beyond demons and Lycia. Instead of paying a conventional cost, the player gains an Affliction debuff. Pact of Beidat was presented as a broad spell enhancer, while Pact of Ghorr supports damage-over-time gameplay. Pact of Lycia and Pact of K'tash were teased but not explained.

The reveal also confirmed wider buffs to spells, support gems, caster Unique items and Mana solutions. Numerical details should be assessed only after the full patch notes are available.

What These Changes Mean for League Start

The reveal already changes several launch-week decisions even before the numerical patch notes arrive.

  • Gear upgrades should be easier to equip: socket colours no longer block gem movement, reducing the cost of replacing campaign and early-map armour.
  • Dead Man's Sulphur may be highly liquid: the resource powers multi-outcome crafting, which should create demand from dedicated crafters if access and costs are reasonable.
  • Charts and Ducats may become premium league rewards: rare layouts and special crafting currencies could hold strong early value.
  • Mercenary Warrants may open a new market: desirable skill combinations can be traded even when the current item selection is weak.
  • Abyss and Legion specialization now has exclusive rewards: Stygian Vises, Abyssal Jewels, Enshrouding Crystals and Vestigial items give both mechanics clearer economic identities.
  • Gold may have more competition: Mercenary wagers and Cadiro Anomalies add reasons to preserve Gold rather than spend it casually.
  • Self-cast starters need patch-note verification: the socket change is universally helpful, but the strongest caster starters depend on exact gem, Ascendancy, Unique-item and Mana adjustments.
